How can I sort my playlist on my computer or iOS device and have it sync to other devices?

When I sort a playlist on my computer, the same playlist on my iOS used to sync to the new sort, but now it does not with the new iTunes. Any suggestions? It would be great if we could actually change the sort directly on our iOS devices, not manually, but say by artist, by date, by song name, etc.
