Q: How to print project with jacket in Photos

In iPhoto I can Print Preview a Project and it will present a PDF with its jacket as the first page. In Photos this does not seem to be the case because when I Preview a Project the jacket is not included. Can someone tell me how to have the jacket in the PDF please? Thank you

the standard preview shows the content of the cover and the jacket - it does not have a printable image of the entire jacket

I'm not sure what you want

If you don't use the "Preview Book" command but simply select the book in the sidebar and use "File > Print ⌘P", the pages of the dust jacket will be included in the PDF; if you print to PDF.

I tried that and did not find the jacket. Here's what I used to get in iPhoto:

    1. First page is the Jacket in long format including its front and back sides, flaps, as well as binding title.

    2. Second page is its front and back hardcover. Basically same thing as Jacket but without the flaps.

Now this is what I get in Photos through the same process: Missing jacket, missing binding title, missing long format on jacket and cover.

    Please help. Thank you.

You can only get the individual pages as separate pages when you create a PDF of the book, not the long format. The cover and the flap will be shown in the PDF as separate pages, but all parts of the book are shown, only the spine is missing.

If you want the long format, stick with iPhoto for the time being, or use image editing software to join the single pages into one large wrapper page.

thanks for your reply. Well that is silly because thats a step backwards from iPhoto. And no I cannot stick with iPhoto because Yosemite forced me to upgrade to Photos. I cannot take this current Photos output to my local printer they wont be able to properly print it then. So great. Anyway, thanks guys

IS there a way to export import my book from Photos to iPhoto then? That might be a solution. Thank you.

I guess you are not - order the book and it will come with a cover

you can certainly contact Apple - there is a contact us link at the bottom of this page

    and as I previously posted

Well that is silly because thats a step backwards from iPhoto. And no I cannot stick with iPhoto because Yosemite forced me to upgrade to Photos.

iPhoto 9.6.1 is running well on Yosemite.  Apple released this compatibility update to make it possible to  use iPhoto for thise who need features of iPhoto, that are not yet available in Photos. It is not compulsory to use Photos, only because this new application has been released with Yosemite.

If you can update iPhoto to version 9.6.1, export the photos you want to use in your book from Photos and create the book in iPhoto.

You can open iPhoto Libraries in Photos, but you cannot open Photos libraries in iPhoto. That migration is one way.

Barney-15E's user tip explains how to update to iPhoto 9.6.1 by reinstalling your purchase. See this link:   Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X 10.10.3

As a workaround to use the PDF preview to get your book printed at a local print shop, duplicate the PDF preview.  Delete the cover and the back and the flaps from the original, so it starts with the first photo page. You can do this in the Preview.app if you reveal the sidebar in preview. And from the copy of the PDF delete all inside pages, so you have a file with only the front and back cover.  Your printer should be able to print a cover from this and bind the book correcly.  Or ask at the store what is needed.

Thank you! In fact just several hours ago I discovered this as well. Apparently I still have iPhoto installed and it runs even better than Photos. The Project feature is much more responsive than Photos'. Shame on you Apple for breaking a good product!
