Q: Apple TV and computer connection

My Apple TV cannot connect to my computer and the error message is that it is not on the same network.  It is on the same network and I have iTunes open.

Verified with RoadRunner that all is well.  My Apple TV works fine with NetFlix so there has to be another issue.

Help!

Apple TV, iOS 8.4.1

If you have a dual-band Router which is keeping both networks 2.4 GHz and 5GHz in sync (both networks are broadcasted as one single Network), then this might be the root of your troubles. Disable Sync Mode and keep both networks as a separate networks with a different names.

Some of the WiFi signal extenders might also caused issues. If you use any of them, try to see if problem persist when your computer and Apple TV are connect only to the Router.

If you are not sure about above, start with some simple steps like cycling power on all of your devices which are participating in your Network: Computer, Apple TV and your Router. Then turn on your Router first and after is fully on, then power on remaining devices.

If you are suspecting an issue with Apple TV, then test your Apple TV on other network.

If you do use built-in Firewall on your Mac, disable it and test it again. If you do use other, 3rd party Security apps like Firewall, Antivirus or Internet Security then disable them or uninstall as per manufacturer/developer instructions.
