Q: Tech Support for iBook seems to be non-existent?

When attempting to purchase an iBook we are instructed to verify (or some such thing) our existing iTunes payment method. When we verify our existing iTunes payment method we are notified we have successfully accomplished the verification.  However, when we then attempt to purchase the iBook, we receive a notification indication our verification was NOT successful. This seems to be contrary to the first notification?   Then, we are again instructed to verify our existing iTunes method of payment.  A catch-22 if ever i saw one!  (went thru the loop 3 times!) The method of payment we are trying to establish is with PayPal and have never had a problem like this before.  But it gets worse....  When attempting to contact Apple tech support we are unable to find any phone support at all?  We were able to locate an EMAIL support form.  However, it indicated our request for help would be answered in 48 hours. And today is friday...  which most likely means an addition delay?  Good grief, by the time Apple even looks at my request for help i could have read the iBook from cover to cover (seriously)  I like my Mac, but trying to get help for a simple generic problem has been time consuming, discombobulating and a pain in the butt. I'm starting to wonder if I really like my Mac... or if i just like the idea of a Mac?  If anyone could provide an Apple support phone number that is actually answered, i would be grateful.  BTW, i have tried Apple Support for my iMAC... but since it is past the warranty period, they will no longer answer?!  Instead, Apple directs me to a line that offers "Pay Per Call"  (sigh)  ... we shouldn't have to pay to talk to someone just to ask how to make an iBook purchase.  Thanks again for any ideas u may have. And for what it's worth, rather than wait for Apple, we ordered the Kindle version of the book on Amazon... and it was downloaded in jst seconds     Would still like to know if Apple has actual tech support though.... tnx.

    Hi Pat B.

I'm sorry you had trouble paying for a purchase in the iTunes Store.   PayPal is a payment option for some countries.   Have you made purchases in the iTunes Store in the past with a different form of payment?  Below is a resource that explains how to edit the billing information for your iTunes Store account.  I would suggest trying this first, then "purchase" a free item on iBook Store to make sure the process works.  Then you can attempt to purchase another item from the iBook Store if you wish.

If you are still unsuccessful, the link below will initiate support from the iTunes Store.  This is the only team that has access to your billing and account information (with your permission).   They provide support via email and chat.   You will not be charged by this department for assistance in purchasing an item.

Payment methods you can use in the iTunes Store, Mac App Store, App Store, and iBooks Store - Apple Support

Before you can buy anything from the iTunes Store, Mac App Store, App Store, and iBooks Store, you need an Apple ID. When you create an Apple ID for any of these stores, you also need to provide a payment method for your purchases.

The available payment methods vary by country. You can typically use these methods:

    • Credit cards
    • Content codes
    • Store credit, including iTunes Store Gift Cards, Gift Certificates, and Allowances
    • ClickandBuy
    • PayEase
    • PayPal
    • UnionPay (requires SMS PIN for setup)

    Use your Mac or PC

Click to open iTunes and sign in from the Account Information page, or use the steps below:

    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Click Sign In and enter your Apple ID.
    3. Click your name and select Account Info from the drop-down menu. You'll be asked to sign in again.

      Account menu

Then use these steps to update your payment information:

    1. From the Account Information page, click Edit to the right of Payment Type. You can see which payment methods the iTunes Store accepts in the Payment Type section. If you're using Family Sharing, only the family organizer can update the payment information. Learn more about payment information and Family Sharing.
    2. Change or remove your information. To remove the payment method, select None.
See what to do if you don't see None or can't select it.
    3. Click Done.

After you change your payment information, the iTunes Store places a temporary authorization hold on your credit card to verify your updated account information.

If you need help changing your payment information, credit card details, or billing information, contact iTunes Store support. Or you might find the answer to your question below:

    • If you change your payment method, make sure your account information matches the credit card information on file with your financial institution.
    • If you use an AOL screen name to sign in to the iTunes Store, editing your information on the Account Information page won't update your AOL account. If you need to update your AOL account information, contact AOL.
    • If your previous payment wasn't accepted, you might need to change your payment information.
