8.4.1 deleting music

once again another fumble by apple with the updates. Updated iTunes to 12.2.2. and iPhone to 8.4.1. Synced phone and noticed that more than half of the songs on my phone have disappeared. why is it so hard for apple to release updates that are problem free?
