Normally in the US.  Purchased my iPad in U.S.   However I am in North Africa at the moment on vacation.  I am not in a country that does not allow face time.  I   did my update just before I left the U.S. But when I tried to use it I realized there was a problem.  Your question was valid.  Thanks Briansyddall

Lemon, try this first, a hard reboot. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not loose anything.

If it does not solve the problem check this article. Hope this resolves the issue, if not post back....

Elcpu. It's  taken awhile to go through the link that you sent.  I checked my time zone and time as that was one of the things to look for.  I even tried the reboot after changing my time zone.  Since I did travel it was one thing I did forget about.  Still no luck for checking into FaceTime.  Tis was still helpful as I have one ruled out more things.  Lemonded

Thought I would add one more tidbit of information.  I brought my iPhone with me also and while it is not normally the device I use for face time, I finally realized it was one more option to try.   I did make the latest update on the iPhone 8.4.1 and Face Time did work.  I made the 8.4.1 update on the iPad but it still did not work.

Ok ,  Ican use Face Time on my phone but not my IPad.  I am Really baffled by this.  I can find no setting different on my iPhone vs my iPad.   Thanks to the community for your help!   Your suggestions were helpful.   Unfortunately, I feel like I must now pay for Apple to fix what should not be a problem.
