OS X update 10.10.5 not working

Using the App Store update app is not working. To the right of OS X update 10.10.5 is the UPDATE button. When I click that button I get a prompt that says "Restarting Your Computer" Your computer will restart in x seconds to install updates. When x gets to zero the App store button starts jumping and when I click it I get a new prompt that says "Available updates have changed" Click "Show details". Which I do. Then the prompt disappears and nothing else happens. The App Store update app still shows that I have an update available. ???

It also shows that I need to update iTunes to version 12.2.2 but below it shows that I have already updated iTunes 12.2.2. ???

same problem. the history says both were installed over and over in the past few days, but still have 10.10.4. once i can get the update to download again, it either jumps up to where it left off around 450-600 MB or "starts over around" 11 MB. or i get stuck in the never-ending loop of "you have more to download" or restart now. guess a trip to the genius bar is in my future.

Hi Carol, I am having exactly the same problem.

I noticed the message about two days ago and tried to install it using the App Store, it downloaded the update and when I click on restart I get the same message as you did. At the moment I got close to sixteen attempts to install the update.

Searching a bit more online I've found this http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/200454/appstore-wont-install-os-x-10-10 -5-update

To be honest, it didn't quite helped me as I tried it this morning and the terminal keeps running and no install or message indicating anything about restart has been displayed (this is annoying).

What is worst is, I don't find any helpful message coming from Apple about how to solve this 😟

Apple has a link similar to their solution How to remotely install software updates using the command line - Apple Support

Ok, As an update, I've manage to fix this issue.

For some unknown reason, when I ran on terminal

$ sudo -s
$ softwareupdate -iav

It consistently got stuck on 81%, so I thought... how about if I try to download it, and then attempt the installation

$ sudo -s
$ softwareupdate -dav

$ softwareupdate -iav

And that seemed to have worked. At the moment my terminal is requesting me to restart my mac. But I am happy I sorted this one out.

If you haven't done 'sudo' before, is a console command to elevate your terminal privileges (similar to when the mac requests your password) to then be able to perform system changes.

Hopefully this will help you.

Cheers!
