Go buy CCC http://www.bombich.com
Enable checksum on all file copies.
you may need though to begin with a clean system, for safety, for maintenance (never to be used for operations)
- and clone that also to be the start of your new SSD boot device -
a clean install of the system on Samsung XP941 256 or 512GB (attaches to PCIe with Lycom adapter $25)
Setup Assistant will help.. in the end.
Leaving out details does not help us though. But the above is true for any Mac Pro and OS X version.

Desktopsthe Apple logo appears
The Apple logo is loaded off your Boot Drive, it is not in the Mac's ROM. So you are getting at least one load of "stuff" off your Boot Drive. Then something is getting stalled.
I suggest you enable Verbose Mode, let it run, and write down the last three lines on the screen when it stops adding new lines, and post them here.

If you have another drive you can boot from, or the 10.6 Installer/Utilities DVD, you could boot from that and run Disk Utility (Repair Disk [directory]) against your Boot Drive.
To use the DVD for Utilities, answer only the "what language" question, and do not proceed. Wait a quarter minute and the MenuBar to be drawn. Look for Utilities on the Menus and Choose Disk Utility.
