Q: my "new" Apple TV remote will not pair with either my iPad, iPhone, or my powerbook, any suggestions?

Aug 15, 2015 1:03 PMby GuyVenuti,Thanks but there is a procedure on the Apple Support page that details using my iPad or iPhone to assist with the startup issues i'm having with a new Apple TV. It will not get by the Date & Time page and therefore will not allow me to complete my sign in. The procedure allows you to utize other apple products to get by these types of problems, that is assuming that i am correctly reading the on-line instructions from Apple.

Aug 15, 2015 3:02 PMby vazandrew,That procedure is for doing a basic setup on Apple TV, has nothing to with remote and won't setup home sharing nor the remote app (for those who do the have the physical remote)
It is stuck on setting date/time because it isn't properly connected to the network.
Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings-general-network)
If on WiFi try Ethernet
Msure router has port 123 open (refer to manual if unsure)

If you have an iPhone, there is a workaround.
1. Setup Personal Hotspot on your iPhone: Share your Internet connection with Personal Hotspot - Apple Support
(If you don't have an iPhone, check if your phone allows to Share Internet with other devices, if yes, then look in your phone manual how to turn on this option)
2. Reset All Settings on your Apple TV: How to restart your Apple TV - Apple Support
3. Instead of connecting your Apple TV to your home WiFi, try this time to temporarily connect an Apple TV to Personal Hotspot connection created from your iPhone.
4. Finish setup of your Apple TV.
5. Reconnect your Apple TV to your home Wifi: Get help with Wi-Fi networks and Apple TV - Apple Support
If that setup worked, call your ISP and asked them to unlock for you ports listed in this article:
If your Apple TV stops at the date and time screen during startup - Apple Support
TCP and UDP ports and protocols used by Apple TV - Apple Support
