This is probably a very silly question, but i am looking to remove the circular icons on the left in grey with the two initials of the contacts im messaging with. Does anyone know where i can find the setting?

I was in a discussion with another user the other day and she was asking how to get the initials to show on her device. I do not see the two initials on my phone in the messages app either. I see the full name of the contact only. I see the initials in the actual text message if it is a group text, and I know why that happens, but I do not see initials in the view that is posted above in the screenshot. I also see a preview of each text just like in the mail app. I have no idea how or where to change this myself.
They appear to be called contact photos and also appear to be a feature of the iPhone 6 Plus only.

It's a 6+ feature only. That's why I'm not willing to make an unequivocal statement that it's impossible to remove. I have a 6.

Interesting, perhaps they disappear once the window fills up. This is an iphone 6 plus with 8.4.1 for reference.
On my iphone 6 it does not do this.
I have the 5S so that explains that. Another interesting tid bit to file away into my memory bank. Thanks for the clarification.
