8.4.1 iOS Update battery draining quickly & overheating

Hi, I've recently noticed with this new update that my battery is draining very quickly with little or no use. It started when I came home from work my iPhone was on 1% and as a nurse, I barely get time to have a break so I don't use my phone whilst I'm at work. I also ensure that I shut down all of the apps that I use before I click the lock screen button. This was when I had the 8.3.1 iOS update.

The next day the exact same thing happened. Around 5pm my iPhone blanked out with barely any use. Then I had a notification that the new iOS update (8.4.1) , so I updated it. Honestly I wished I didn't because its just made the whole situation 10 x worse. When my iPhone is in charge or on the table I find that it is overheating quite a lot.

Now in the morning my battery was 1% with barely any use. In the night my phone is at my bedside table, all of the open apps i've closed. In the night I don't use my phone at all and I dont set an alarm and yet this problem still occurs.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so, please reply 🙂

Exact same issue for me after 8.4.1 update. Drains like never before from 100% to 0% with about 4 hours of moderate use. It also is heating up irregularly. iPad seems to be suffering too. I do see that it's currently uploading 2 photoshop iCloud on my iPad. Can't check iPhone as it's powerless. Ipad has used 8% power while I've found this thread and read it using LTE network. Yikes.

gmacdon76 above may be onto something. I checked settings >photos & camera and saw that over 1000 photos were being uploaded to iCloud, but only when wifi is available. I haven't been on wifi for awhile and phone is holding charge pretty well. It may be that if you're using wifi, battery is draining because of uploading. Maybe try turning wifi off. IDK, pretty bad on Apple's part either way.

this is definitely an update problem. My phone is new iPhone 6+ (3days) and my battery went from 100 to 48% within 2 hours! I did nothing unusual as I would on my old iPhone 6. my phone is noticeably hot. Not only is the battery a problem but sometimes my phone doesn't respond. Especially while texting where there's a complete lag! I did a hard reset. Worked fine for the first day. Now the problems are back!

This is so worrying. I fully charged my iPad mini overnight, and then unplugged it, put it to sleep, and into my briefcase. During lunch-break i took it out, and the iPad was incredibly hot, with Battery at 58%. Looking at the usage, it said that "Facebook background activity" was responsible for 85% of the usage??

My iPad used to have excellent battery life prior to the 8.4.1. update, but this is both inconvenient and dangerous with the amount of heat it generates.

In the time it's taken to read these posts and write this item, it has dropped 5%, and I'm doing it on my PC!!

What on earth is going on?

Likewise, I am experiencing these problems as well, so there is no need to reiterate the obvious; however, I am disturbed further concerning the apparent absence of Apple personnel within most of these forums.

Long ago, there were timely chime-ins from Apple with tangible input; the opportunity to collaborate with Apple TECHs was invaluable, even if there was not an immediate fix. Acknowledgement from Apple personnel showed the evidence of concern for consumer experience along with proudly upholding the integrity of their products being actively expressed.

Speaking as an Apple user for all personal technological solutions, if I have to disable Apple-specific features, remain at risk for information loss, pay top dollar for unreliable hardware, be consistently subjected to less than sufficient software innovations, and seek third-party assisance in an attempt to obtain a mere remnance of the Apple experience, I may as well be a customer of an Apple competitor!

Apple, the ball is now in your court!

This isn't completely uncommon however it is something to be proactive about.

If the basic troubleshooting steps do not work, there is always the option of restoring the device via iTunes and setting it up as new.

By doing that, you will install Brand-New, Up-to-Date software.

If your battery s still behaving erratically, and you are within 1 Year Hardware Limited Warranty, you are eligible to have your phone replaced.

If not, Battery replacements/ repairs are $79.00 Plus applicable tax.

Okay, people, just to make one thing clear:

Nothing will help this problem.

WE NEED A NEW UPDATE AND FAST!

Every given solution is just a temporary solution. They do not fix the problems with battery or overheating, Apple Music, Safari, Mail, App Store etc.

And those are the problems with my iPhone 5S. And nothing helps. Every time those problems come back.

And I'm really sure this overheating is not a healthy thing for my phone.

Apple should say something, because this is a serious matter. We need a fix.

OK folks I've had the problem on three devices and it's easy to see what's happened.

WHen I originally switched on iCloud Photo storage (back on 8.3) I went through a period of several days with awful overheating and battery drain. On closer inspection of you look at the Settings -> Photos & Camera you will see during times when the phone etc is overheating that it is either 1) Uploading XXX images 2) Downloding XXX images or 3) Preparing XXX images. It's this background process that's going crazy with the battery usage.

THe upgrade to 8.4.1 looks to have a problem (may be deliberate) but it causes this process to restart.

While this is frustrating, it does complete - for me and my 90,000 photos it took about 2-3 days. It prefers to do this on wifi so sometimes turning off that will help for a while. Trust me when it's finished your battery life is back to normal.

HOpe that helps!
