Q: macbook pro ssd performance slow after 10.10.5 update

so I bought my first MacBook pro ever last Saturday brand new mjlt2 15.4 the latest version and than I used my external 3.0 hdd 1tb to transfer a single iso file of 3.94gb to my MacBook it only took a second and than copied the same file back on hdd to see if the tranfers speed was same and it was almost same but today when I tried to transfer a similar file of 4.08gb from the drive to laptop it took quite long and since than I have transfer a lot of files to see if it was only because of a different file I even tried the same 3.94gb iso file transfer even that took time this change was noticed after the 10.10.5 update before that is was working fine

Are there lots of those big files on your startup drive? How much free space does the startup drive have? (highlight the drive and then File menu > get info)

My MacBook Pro (2012) also very, very slow after updating to 10.10.5.  10 Seconds between pad clicks and keyboard strikes.  45 seconds for application load with no other applications open.  Safari goes away and sometime later responds to a keystroke.  The list of not responding applications in Force Quit is numerous.  I have never seen this before.

My guess is Apple is playing with the UI again.  UI response went down the tubes with Mavericks, improved slightly with Yosemite, and seemed down the tubes again with 10.10.5.  I can't imagine who they are delegating to OS X development with all the effort they are putting into iOS 9.  It's almost as if they've forgotten how to service interrupts and are instead polling the keyboard buffer, 1980s style.  More likely they are neck deep in layered APIs.  Emulators don't even run this slow.

Suggest shutting down your Mac and power button starting a couple of times after the 10.10.5 auto-restart.  No idea why this should matter but it helped.  Go out for tea while it's starting.  You won't miss anything.  Sorry your first experience with a Mac has to be this inanity but all companies shoot themselves in the foot occasionally.

In order to help you, you will need to provide descriptive informations. You probably will agree that "Only a second" and "quiet long" is not the best description and it is difficult to interpret. Provide exactly how big is file used for testing and how much time is taking to copy this file.

Also, when you are trying to copy files between your drives, do you perform any additional tasks on your computer. Do you have any other applications open?

by only a second i meant even the file transfer dialog didn't appear it was extremely fast and i am not making this up.

by quite long i mean the same file that was 3.94gb which was transferred in only a second took around 1 min and this time there was that file transfer box that shows estimated time and progress and no i am not running any power hungry programs some browsing may be but i have tried leaving it idle while transfer aswell
