How do I remove "MegaBackup" malware?

I was installing updates and accidentally installed some Malware. I've removed everything except I cannot delete this "MegaBackup." When I try to send it to the trash it says "cannot be deleted because MegaBackup is running", however I have closed it. Can anyone help?

I followed the instructions but was confused at the instruction to "Start a reply to this message." I did not see any message. A pop-up box did appear with an edit box, but was not a form I would describe as a message I could reply to. I decided that perhaps I needed to try the Safe-mode option. From safe mode I was able to 1.) drag the application to trash and 2.) delete the files in the LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons folders.

So, while this didn't work exactly as written (and I am a year on from posting) it provided the information I needed to clean up my computer. Thank you!

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.

There is nothing obvious in your screen shot. In a new post, please describe what your computer is doing. You also might post an Etrecheck report. Run this program in your normal account, then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

So I did all the stuff Linc Davis (Thank you, Linc. This is me continuing the good will.) said to, but I had an additional problem: I couldn't drag the file from Applications because it was "open." Yeah, it wasn't. So I ran this Malwarebytes | Thank you for downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac a Genius in the Apple Store told me it is what they use to scrub your computer and ditch the viruses. What it does (after you download it, of course) is run a diagnostic on your computer, identify the threats, recommend you delete them, and then does. After it has deleted them, it will want you to restart your computer. Once you've done this, you will be rid of the heinous pop-up generator. I was.

And guys? I am reeeeaaallllyy not gifted technologically-speaking. I am the anti-tech-savvy. If I say it's easy, trust me: it is.

I followed the 5 steps that Linc Davis posted in his reply, but instead of taking screenshots (because I wasn't sure what to do with them afterwards) I highlighted the documents that came up from each of the 3 Finder --> Go --> Go To Folder searches that he posted and dragged them to the trash. I wasn't sure if that did anything or not so I also followed the instructions on this page and the malware is now gone! https://megabackup.com/uninstall

Make sure you empty your trash when you're finished to make sure its really gone.

Good luck!
