Mail 3.6 started asking for password to download email, but does't accept input. Password is valid since it does work getting webmail direct from ISP (Comcast) website. How can I restore download into mail program

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Mail 3.6

Here's what I'd try...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

You may have duplicates in there also.
