I loaded a dvd into my macbook pro. Now I want to view it with my AppleTV. I can't do it without having my computer open. How can I view my dvd with Apple TV? I did put the dvd in iTunes format already. It shows in "home videos" but don't see it on Apple TV.

that is correct the DRM protection of dvd (and blueray) don't allow that if it's unencrypted optical discs you can use the free program called handbrake to make a version you can add to your itunes lib
I did use macxdvd ripper. The dvd is in Itunes. Just can't use Apple TV to watch unless the computer is on. It runs on my ipad and iphone, shouldn't it run on Apple TV too?
You can't play content from a computer when it's not running. It would be like boiling a kettle when it's not plugged in.

Purchased movies are played from Apple Servers over the Internet, not from your computer.
