I've tried to upload my XL Apple picture book several times and have tried solutions I found on-line, but nothing works. It keeps getting hung up. Is there perhaps a file size limit?

No - but many, many similar reports - it looks like Apple is having server issues

Be sure to preview the book (and save the pdf file) before ordering according to this Apple document: Preview a print project in Photos, iPhoto, or Aperture to avoid issues - Apple Support. Compare the pdf file to the printed copy when you receive it.
