Slow/impossible downloads since installing 8.4.1

Since upgrading both my iPhone 6 and iPad Air to 8.4.1, downloads from the App Store and in iBooks have been extremely slow. For example, a 40MB app took approximately 4 hours to download today. Larger apps just don't download at all, showing essentially no progress after trying all day. I have done a hard reset (power + home buttons), network settings reset and all settings reset and still have the issue on both devices. I have power cycled my router and have used speedtest.net to confirm that my Internet access and speed are OK. At this point I'm suspecting an issue with the 8.4.1 upgrade. Is anyone else having this problem? Any thoughts on what to try beyond what I've already done?

Interestingly, neither my wife nor my neighbor can update/download from the App Store and they have NOT upgraded to 8.4.1. My neighbor is on his own wireless but uses the same ISP (CenturyLink). Based on this, I did a TRACEROUTE to PHOBOS.APPLE.COM and could not get through (see below for trace). Obviously something has gone awry between CenturyLink and Apple! Now, how to convince either one of them that they have a problem...?????

I still can not upgrade or download anything on my Ipad. I have not gotten the iOS 8.4.1 yet it won't download it either. I also have century link. I even had candy crush app disappear earlier when I was trying to upgrade it...rebooted and it came back. I guess I will leave them alone for a few days and see if it fixes itself.

I have been having this problem too for the past week. Apple Music, Mac App Store, and iOS App Store downloads have all been excruciatingly slow over home wifi, even as everything else works normally, and Speedtest shows very fast wifi speeds on all devices.

Apple wanted me to restore all my devices, but I knew it had to be router or server related somehow, given how the problem was showing up.

Here's what worked for me: I changed the DNS settings on my home router from their default values to to OpenDNS. After I did that, all downloads went right back to normal.

The OpenDNS IP addresses are:

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Hope this helps others!

A neighbor told me that he tried this and it worked for him as well. I'm traveling right now, but will try it when I return. This clearly points to an issue with CenturyLink's DNS. They've had this issue in the past and traced it to a mis-configured DS3. No response from them yet regarding the trouble ticket that I put in, but Apple contacted me and is looking into it from their side. Hopefully they can get CL's (or Level3's or whoever's) attention!

WOW! That OpenDNS is an old solution I haven't thought of implementing! One should always go back to the basis!

Congrats, it solved ALL my problems: Slow iPhone 5, slow/impossible downloads in Apple Store, Settings/iTunes Store and App Store that would not start, Apple Music that would not remember my membership and lots of other issues

I own you one!
