iOS 8.4.1 - Face Time & iMessage not functioning

Since downloading iOS 8.4.1 I can neither send/receive Face Time calls or iMessages - i have tried rebooting, & checked settings, did not work. Any ideas

Ok I got it sorted out but it got worse before - started getting messages to connect to iTunes for push notifications for almost every app I have. After reading discussions I selected one possible fix - going into settings / notifications & for every app I changed the notifier & then back. - eg if I had banner , I took it off and put on alert or vice versa. I did that for every app not just face time / iMessage. Then I powered off & restarted. Voila! It worked. Annoying messages gone, iMessage back working & Face time too.

I had similar problems, iMessages would not send and the message I had typed would eventually disappear (with no red ! alerting me that the message did not send), and my phone number was grayed out for both iMessages and FaceTime. I had to turn off both services, restart the phone, then turn them back on. It made my phone number appear again, but I still had a problem where messages were being sent from my icloud account even though my phone number was selected as the one to initiate new messages. So I had to turn off all email accounts on the Send & Receive portion of the iMessages in settings.
