It sounds like you are playing streaming content from iTunes without issue, but when you resume a paused track it starts from the beginning. There can be a number of causes for something like that, but first I would start by checking for 3rd party plugins that may be interfering with iTunes:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
If there aren't any or that is not the issue then I would next use the following article to test if the issue is user specific or not. Start at the section titled "Create a new user account"
