In which albums are they in?

Are the duplicates in the same album or different ones?

How did the photos get on the iPod?

Different ones. It happened when I set my iPod to original settings, due to problems with the iPod.

You can delete photos from the Saved Photos album. The phtos in other albums were synced to the iPod and yo have to unsync them. Unsyncing is included here:
