I decided to reformat my mac last night, after the hard drive had been erased it went to the disk utility screen I clicked on install OS X then an error msg came up and said it couldnt do it, then u stupidly restarted my mac and now it won't do anything, the grey screen comes up with a empty folder flashing on my screen.
Please can anyone help me get my mac up and running again.I need my mac for everything,
It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT MBP that you have and the current OSX.

HI its a older Mac book pro 15 and I was running the latest Yosemite OS X, I am not a mac whizz so sorry about lack of info, now when I turn on my Mac I get an gret screen with a empty flashing folder in the middle of the screen that's all that happens.
Let's try this; Boot into the recovery partition:

From the 4 option menu select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.
If the disk cannot be repaired, it will have to be replaced.

TTrying that now, every time I try it I get the spinning glone on my screen for ages and then nothing happens

IT just came up with an error saying 2002f and stopped
MAC BOOK PRO 15 inch mid 2010
Use the original Snow Leopard installation disk tha came with the MBP and start up the MBP as if you were going to install the OSX.
After the language selection, the display should have a menu bar on top.
Click on UTILITIES.
From the drop down menu, select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.
If the disk cannot be repaired, it will have to be replaced.
