Q: Passwords not updating in iphone

Hello all

I have a strange problem with my iphone. I have iCloud activated and it seems to work fine for pictures and reminders and calendar.

However the keychain seems not to be working at all.

The option is activated in the setting, but Safari and Wifi are not getting any passwords that I enter on my iMac or Macbook Pro.

I tried to de-activate the keychain - which dolly enough is not working either. Any time I try to deactivate it, it will re-activate itself immediately. the only way I have is to sign out of iCloud and delete all the data off my phone.

I did this and restarted and after that signed into iCloud again, but still the problem persists. The reminders and all will synch with iCloud but the passwords just don't.

I hope someone here has advice for me. Its driving me up the wall. Keychain is such a convenient feature - I'd really like to use it to the fullest.

thank you all for looking into this.

Regards,

Steffen

P.S. I Googled the problem but didn't find any advice on this. Sorry if I have missed a post regarding this problem.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4.1

I found the solution by try-and-error. Since I saw two other also have this problem I will post my solution.

Problem: iphone and iMac / Macbook don't seem to have the same passwords. I want to log out of keychain and reset it to re-synch, but signing out seems not to work. Keychain won't switch out.

    It's a two part issue:

    1. Signing out of iCloud keychain:

First ( ! ) you need to sing out off the key chain from all computers. Phone only works as last. Usually this should work in the iCloud settings in preferences. In my case it didn't work there. Also signing out of iCloud was not possible.

However, it worked to sign out  when I was in the “Account” preferences. I deleted the iCloud account and subsequently I was singed out of the keychain. I did get asked whether I want to keep the data and everything worked as it should.

I repeated this on my iMac and MacbookPro. Afterward the deactivation of the keychain on my phone worked as well.

    Now re-activating the keychain.

After I restarted all devices (don’t know if I needed to, but surely it didn’t hurt) I reactivated the keychain on my iMac (which has the most up-to-date passwords). iCloud asked me if I wanted to reset the keychain because it identified that there was some trouble between the data on the iMac and in the iCloud (go figure! NOW the darn thing realised that??).

Sure I wanted to reset it. Went ahead and reactivated iCloud and keychain on the macbook and the iphone.

    2. Still not all password synchronised?

After checking a few websites that didn’t used to get the password from the keychain on the phone earlier, it worked. Also checked in the phone > Settings > Safari > passwords and saw a decent list of stored passwords. But not yet all of them

Then I realised that in the keychain access there are TWO keychains on either the iMac and the macbook. One “login” and one “iCloud”. Well, a short check later I realised the password missing on the phone where the ones stored under “login”.

Subsequently I moved (by copying and deleting) all keychains from “login” to “iCloud” on both devices, tested the result on the phone and voila: Its working.

Why some passwords are stored under "login" and some under "iCloud"? I have no idea, but it solved my issue to copy them. (Yes, for EACH item you have to type in your OS X login password. For the time being I changed it to a single character, so the effort with 250 times pressing "1" (my interim password) and "enter" was actually less than the night I spend browsing to find a solution..

I really hope this helps other lost souls out there. It had me close to desperation myself..

    Regards,

    Steffen

Every device has local info and icloud info.

login is local - not synced through icloud.

People from Mac part of this forums can tell you how they are created.
