Started getting messages of running out of space an some of the games are new purchases. My question is there a safe way to clear space without losing the money spent .If at sometime I would like to play these games again.

You can re-download your past purchases at any time, for free, by logging into the App Store, then navigating to the Purchases tab.
If you're running out of spac, there might be other solutions available. Sarch this forum for that issue.
As Rysz above said, the answer is Yes. You will not loose the apps but what I would do if go to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage and see what is taking all the space. Then delete all that you no longer use or need. If some of them are free you can always add them again.
Be warned that deleting an app (game or otherwise) will also lose any progress made in the game if the progress is stored locally on the device. If the game's save data is stored in the cloud, either on the game's own server, in your iCloud storage or otherwise, you should be OK though.
You may want to contact the app developer to verify if your save data is preserved somewhere. Otherwise, be prepared to start your game(s) over again from scratch.
You may also lose in app purchases. So check with your game developers on that one.
