faces recognition after reinstall of Yosemite

Hello all,

I´ll try to explain my case. For security reasons I have been forced to reinstall from scratch my Yosemite installation in my mac mini 2012. In previous instalation I had a collection of about 20.000 pictures with faces recognized in almost all of them. The search for a face name worked flawlessly both in OS X and iOS, so the face recognition was fine.

After reinstall Yosemite in the mac mini (my only computer), started Photos again and the program downloaded the full collection of 20.000 pictures without problems (just some time for complete..) BUT the faces album that was in my previously installation of Yosemite is empty in the new one. I waited some days for a sync problem but it seems there is no problem, simply the faces are not recovered. BUT, If I search for a face name (as I used to do previous to reinstall) the search is correct and all the faces of that persons are show. Simply the Faces album keeps empty and I can´t sign name to faces of new photos I take.

What should I do? start again from scratch the faces album.... (not very happy with this solution)

Is there a way to recover Faces already recognized in Photos app?

Do you use iCloud Photo Library? Did Photos download the photos again from iCloud Photo Library after you reinstalled the system? iCloud Photo Library keeps most data from your Photos Library, but not the faces thumbnails and the Faces album, only searchable faces keywords. It will be like syncing the library between two Macs, as described here: Use Photos and iCloud Photo Library on multiple Mac computers - Apple Support

You will have to tag the faces again,or restore the Photos Library from a previous backup before you reinstalled the system. The searchable keywords will help to speed up the reassignment of faces.

Yes, I use ICloud Photo Library and the Photos app have downloaded photos from iCloud Photo Library. Ok, so I have to search for each Face name and rename it again... It´s a pity iCloud don´t store the Faces album. As it keeps the faces information metadata, I think it will be not much difficult to "re-construct" the Faces album again...

When I synced my library to a different Mac I used smart albums to quickly find all photos of a specific person.

I named a few faces for several persons, quit Photos, and after I restarted it, Photos suggested most of the faces automatically when I named further faces of the same person.

Oh fantastic, I hope this works. I just spent several hours tagging faces and then discovered I had to move my library to an external. This of course meant just starting a new Photos library on the external and downloading my iCloud photo library to it. (No Faces data, naturally.)
