A nearby transformer blew so power was lost in spite of having a surge protector with battery backup. Now I can't watch anything on Hule.com or Netflix on either Safari or Firefox because I don't get any sound, nor do I have sound with iTunes. Does anyone have any suggestions before I call Apple? [I have an iMac.]

For the record, I've tried using the volume buttons on the keyboard, have turned the keyboard off and on as well as trying things in System Preferences.

Dominic23, thank you for your suggestions; I have tried each step in the first suggestion as well as the 2nd one a couple times. I do hear the sound it makes when the computer comes back on but that's it. I don't have Yoseite yet, I still have the prior update. But I guess I'll update once I get the sound to work. Will try calling Apple.

I did get it taken care of. When the surge protector was blown, it damaged my external speakers. Fortunately, the computer itself is fine.
