file extensions not appearing on Microsoft word documents

the file extensions are not appearing on 'some' of my microsoft word documents... Office 2008... running OSX 10.7.5... I figure.. must have turned off file extensions... How do I 'turn on' file extensions

Angie,

First place to check is Finder>Preferences...>Advanced> ✓ "Show all filename extensions."

Yes, that did help... also.. I discovered.. the 'append file extension' had become un-checked on the 'save as'.. window in word ... if anyone else has this problem
