Hi redstallion -

If the disc is locked and it's a CD-R disc then there is nothing you can do. If the disc is locked and it's a CD-RW disc then you can initialize it ...meaning erase it's contents ...then prepare to record/save fresh information in its place.

The question I have is "Do you have a CD drive that can burn CD's?" The Clamshell does not normally come with a CD burner.

You cannot add additional files to a CD-ROM disk; you need to place the information on another form of media. Unless you've added an external CD or DVD writer to your computer or replaced the internal drive, you cannot write anything to optical media on your computer, and you will need to use an external hard drive or flash drive to store the files.

A 'Clamshell' is another name for the ibook you have - or at least I hope this is the one you have...

A Niel mentions in his post an external hard drive would be great for transferring information - and you'll need one that works via the USB port. He also mentions a 'Flash' drive (I recommend this because they are quite simple to use) ...these are also USB connected and quite small (can fit on your keychain), hold up to 2+ Gig of data and are really cheap if you can get one on sale. They look like this...

Good luck in your upgrading 🙂
