firmware password issues

Hello,

I bought an Apple MacBook Pro 2011 from a pawn shop out in Colorado. The firmware password is still on the Mac and I can not figure out how to reset it or anything. Everything that I am reading is stating that I can not, unless I bring it to an Apple Store. I don't mind doing that but I am curious on what will happen. I have the receipt and I also brought it to the Mac Super Store to see if they could help. We pulled the serial number and no name was associated with the device and at the Pawn Shop I was informed they put it through Pawn Detail? Which is a system that goes through the police department to make sure it wasn't stolen.

What I am trying to see is if Apple will indeed help me unlock this with the pawn shop receipt.

If you can't remember the firmware password for your Mac, schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Bring your proof of purchase (original receipt or invoice) with you. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation (available only in some countries).

However, since you are not the original purchaser Apple may not help since it is likely the Mac was stolen or lost. Make a reservation at an Apple store and discuss it with them.
