How do I download Yosemite on a thumdrive?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), 13 in 2013

You can download Yosemite to your normal location, Applications, then copy the installer to the flash drive before it installs. Or, download the installer and then install it on the flash drive, at least 8 GB drive, using the instructions in: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202796

You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program which will do all the work for you.

Bootable USB Flash Drive – Diskmaker X
