Yes, you can install Windows 10 on Bootcamp 5. That's what I have (Bootcamp 5.1) in OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. I used the Windows Media Creation Tool(64 bit) to upgrade Windows 7 Pro 64 bit to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. After the Win 10 Pro Upgrade install, I reinstalled my Bootcamp 5.1.5621 64 bit drivers within Win 10.

I have a late-2012 13" MacBook Pro Retina.

I installed using the version currently on my macbook (5.XX) and somewhere during the install process it was updated to bootcamp 6. The install went well installing a new copy of win10. Now I have to find a way to get a license so that I can continue using it. Other problem is that I didn't delete all I could from OSX before the install and wasn't able to give my windows partition enough space. I may have to do it all again as most of the solutions for changing the partition size are problematic.

Are you referring to the Bootcamp 6 Drivers that appear in the Apple Software Update in Windows 10? My current Yosemite Bootcamp utility version is still 5.1 not 6. And I didn't allow the Bootcamp 6 drivers to be installed since my Bootcamp Utility is still 5.1.

If you have the free Windows 10, you shouldn't need a key if you upgrade over Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. That's what I did. I just ran that Media Creation Tool and selected the Upgrade option which activates Windows 10 since Windows 7 was already activated.

I did not have windows installed on my macbook befoe so could not update. I will have to pay for a license to activate windows. All I know is that when bootcamp opened after the windows install was finished, it said it was version 6. I don't remember being given a choice as to whether to upgrade to 6 or not, but why wouldn't you? I think it was automatic since version 6 supports Windows 10.
