Q: Photos thumbnails missing after restore from time capsule:w

I recently replaced my old 2008 24 inch  iMac to a Mac Mini 1.4 GHz version. The old iMac died because the video video card gave out. Prior to buying the Mac Mini, I backed everything up to time capsule.  I upgraded iOS to Yosemite prior to backing up.. When I restored from time capsule, everything seemed to work just fine.  The one exception is that Photos is missing all of my thumbnails. I tried repairing the iPhoto library but that did not seem to make a difference. Has anyone else had this problem and what solutions have you found?

Mac mini, iOS 8.4.1

What does "missing the thumbnails" mean? If there are totally not there then remigrate or reinstall Photos

 

If they are there but no image or the wrong image select a group of photos (up to 1000 or so) and rotate 90 degrees and then rotate back - this will force a redraw of your thumbnails

    This worked!  Thanks.  "Missing thumbnails" meant that I could see little gray boxes but no actual thumbnail image.  Now that I did the double rotate, they reset and it's all good.  Thanks.

    This is only a temporary fix. Upon re-openning Photos the blank thumbnail issue starts over. For someone like myself who has over 20,000 photos in their library, this is not an option.

    then start a new thread with your specific details - this worked of the OP and the thread is solved and it has worked for many others - since you have a different problem please start a new thread - click on the word new to the right of the top banner "apple Support Communities"
