itunes 12.2.2 songs view: mp3 files shown as AAC instead of MPEG audio

I have a mix of AAC and MP3 audio files.

In iTunes Songs view, the 'Kind' column previously differentiated between these formats. Since upgrading to iTunes v 12.2.2 (on a Windows 7-64 bit PC), the 'Kind' column now shows all songs as AAC audio file. If I 'Get Info' on one of the MP3 files, the File tab shows the following

Kind AAC audio file

Format MPEG-1, Layer 3

Location displayed file name is correct, with extension is mp3

I have 3 legacy iPod Classics, 3 iPod touch 6g (128 gB) and an iPad Air (128 gB). The song plays correctly from iTunes on my PC, and on all these devices.

Is this a new bug? Can it be fixed? Does it matter?

Nobody seems to be interested in this, but I finally got iTunes to display the right 'kind' for my mp3 files.

1) Select ALL albums

2) Right-click on one of them and select Delete

3) Respond Yes to the Delete songs question, BUT... on the next dialog, BE SURE to click the KEEP FILES button.

4) go to the File Menu, and select Add Folder to Library.

5) Choose your existing iTunes media folder. It still has the files.

iTunes will rebuild the library. This may take some time, so be patient.

I found that now the 'Kind' column in Songs view was now correct.
