Q: Mail comes through my iPhone but I have to restart mail on my MBP for it to show up

My iPhone will give me the notification that I received mail. I open up mail on my MBP and hit the get new messages and nothing shows up. If I quit mail and restart the app the new mail comes right in. I have fixed my permissions and cleaned up what I could but it still happens. What could be causing this to happen? Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

17" UMBP 3.06 Ghz, Mac OS X (10.6.1), iMac 2.66 & 2 Ghz MBP

A:

Try rebuilding the mailbox.

Rebuild mailbox

If that doesn't work, try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages

On your iPhone tap Settings > iCloud. Toggle Mail off then back on.

On your Mac, open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to Mail then reselect it.

Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync your Mail via Wi-Fi.

Carolyn,

I did as you suggested and I can hear the message come into my iPhone and MBP mail at the same time but the message still doesn't show in mail unless I restart the app.

I have had issues like this before where the message comes through my iPhone and it takes an agonizing long period for it to show in mail. Maybe something got corrupted and needs to be trashed. Not really sure and that is why I came on here with the question.

Eric - the rebuild and index worked. Not sure what happened to cause that but it is nice having my mail app back to normal. Thanks for the help.
