How do I hide the top menu while in presenter mode of PowerPoint?

I am a teacher who recently switched to Mac. Though I love Keynote and make many of my new lessons with it, most of my old lessons are still PowerPoint files. I am annoyed that when using a second screen in presenter mode, the top menu hides on my screen (with the notes, next slide, current slide, etc.) but is permanently at the top on the second screen that displays for my students. I wouldn't care about having on my screen, but it is useless and distracting in the second screen. How do I get rid of it?

I feel ridiculous, but I just figured out an unconventional answer to my own question. The problem only occurs if I start the slide show when PowerPoint is in full screen mode. If I reduce PowerPoint to a window on my desktop, and then start the slide show the menu bar isn't visible. Not the answer I was looking for, but it works.
