Mac not opening .pkg files

I've recently downloaded the free Office 365 Education and I tried opening the file downloaded, which is a .pkg file. But nothing is opened. When I double-click on the file, a download icon shows on the Dock then disappears. I mean, this is from Office so surely it wouldn't contain malware or something. I've also tried in the past to open downloaded files but they always turn out this way. :c

The .PKG file is obviously just an installer, which downloads the file to be installed and then installs it (compare the Dropboxinstaller, Lightroom, and others). Let it download and install the Education file.

Edit: it may take awhile sometimes to really start the download, and also it my be downloading slow because of size or how stressed the download server is (compare iOS downloads or OSX downloads immediately after announcement).
