How to configure 4GB Ram to 8GB - MacBook Air mid 2013?

Per Apple - they state that the MacBook Air Mid 2013 has 4 gb ram configurable to 8 gb. How is this done? The MacBook has permanent memory and cannot be upgraded.

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

It's done by configuring a model in the online Apple Store prior to purchasing it. Configurable isn't the same as upgradable; after a MacBook Air leaves Apple, the amount of RAM it has is the amount it'll always have.
