how do you turn off shuffle on apple music 2015 version

My understanding is that you want to be able to stop shuffling songs when playing a playlist, artist or album, but when you tap the shuffle button again while playing, it does not change. Is that right?

You may want to try some things to troubleshoot.

First, quit all running applications and test again -

Force an app to close in iOS

Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

I am having the same trouble on my iPhone 5. My husband also has this trouble on his iPad air. The shuffle button used to turn on and off but now it just stays on. We have both tried restarting our devices with no luck. Since it is happening to both of us, I suspect this is either a bug or it is difficult to figure out how to change the setting. We don't really want to restore our phones and iPads.

The shuffle buttons have never been very clear. On my MacBook Pro (Yosemite), I can turn the shuffle button on and off, but there is no way to tell which way it is until I go through several songs. It used to change color, if my memory is correct.

OK Wait!! We just figured it out! If you are in an album, you have to press on the individual song to turn the shuffle on and off. This is very confusing, but it works.

Apple really should have set out a FAQ on all the changes they made in the Music app. I feel like I've spent more time trying to "find" everything then I have listening to music...... So frustrating

I agree. Apple Music UX/UI is a nightmare and I say that as a huge Apple fan. I struggled with this shuffle issue for weeks, I couldn't turn it off. In frustration today I finally figured out that saying to Siri "Turn off Shuffle" when listening to an album worked.

So this was a problem for me as well, until I read this thread, which got me clicking(pushing) on every part of the screen.

Its beyond simple to undo this, but not intuitive. There is a Shuffle button when you're in a playlist, it will turn on shuffle if it is not already on. It will NOT turn it back off. Shuffle is a Universal command on this new Music App in iOS (Iphone with vrs 9).

So I made two screenshots, the first shows you where to click when you're in a playlist,

the second screenshot highlights where to turn the shuffle off for the entire playlist, and most likely any other playlist.

So, to summarize, button for easy shuffle ON, couple of clicks to get to where it shuts it off.

Thank you so much!! This has been driving me crazy and this worked perfectly. This is the craziest thing I've seen in a long time. They did one heck of a job hiding this feature. It still shows "Shuffle" on the Playlist itself but now it plays straight through. Thanks AGAIN!!
