Using Boot Camp Problems!

Hello, I wanted to install Windows 8.1 on my MacBook Air (Early 2015) and used boot camp to create windows install on my USB, I couldn't download the windows support software so I downloaded one of the versions off apple website.. once I installed Windows 8.1.. there was no drivers so I opened the usb and tried to install the windows support software in the folder called setup.exe but it said its not meant for this computer and I tried other versions of the windows support software too.

I managed to install few drivers like wifi and stuff from the folders but other than that nothing else works... no sound.. screen brightness is weird and keeps getting brighter and darker every now and then..

What should I do!?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Do you get any Bootcamp download while in Windows 8.1 when you run the Apple Software Update app?

Another thing I would try is to recreate the USB drive's installer. Start at the beginning in OS X and Bootcamp Assistant by check the 1st two boxes "Create a Windows 8 or later install disk" and "Download the latest Windows support software from Apple" and uncheck the 3rd box. This should recreate your installer USB drive with the Bootcamp drivers folder on it. If it completes then you have the drivers on a USB drive for your Mac Model and you can boot into Bootcamp Windows and run the setup.exe to install the drivers.

Im running 10.10.5 OS X Yosemite Early 2015 Macbook Air

This is the only link I'm aware of that gives a list of Mac Models and the Windows version (4-32bit or 5-64bit) of the Bootcamp drivers you can download. However, I don't see anything for 2015 models. You can try this linkto find your drivers. Otherwise, if your Mac is still under warranty, you can call Apple Support and ask them. I'm surprised, that recreating the Windows 8.1 installer through Bootcamp Assistant won't work for you and won't download the support drivers.

I like this part

Plugin in the USB drive and Restart your Mac in safe mode.

From Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support ...

What is safe mode?

Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following:

Verifies your startup disk, and attempts to repair directory issues if needed

This repairs your disk (same as Disk Utility Repair Disk) which allows the disk operations to proceed.

There is a copy saved in /Library/Applications\ Support/Bootcamp/WindowsSupport.dmg .
