Q: Apple Watch peeling at the etching on the back

I spoke with a rep Senior Advisor for Aplle Watch today and have a case #             for the back of my watch.image.jpegimage.jpeg

I have had this unit since June 5th and the band started to peel part so bad that I replaced it with an after market metal band that I purchaced on Amazon. I have an appointment at the new haven location 8/19/15 today . I hope I can be assisted with this matter and I also have apple care . But hope there isnt a claim today because I see a number of Apple watches with the same peeling problem.

Funny you should say this.. Ive had my apple watch in a closed up Lunatik band. (http://www.lunatiklynk.com/#collection)

I think you would have better results if you call apple back and calmly tell them about the paint flaking off the back and that you've seen this problem online and they will tell you to take it to an apple store or exchange it through the mail.  Good luck!

Yes Customer service has been really bad; that is why it's being announced that apple are no more renowned for their customer service.

I have used spigen tough armour which covers the underside of the watch as well; which in turn may or may not cause damage to the paint work.

Now i have been using torras snap on which has an in built screen protector. i'll recommend that. Here's a link: https://torras.world.tmall.com/category-1096635599.htm?search=y&catName=apple+wa tch

Apple retail is never helpful. I've never had a good experience with them either. I never go into the store to actually buy something. I'll go in to see new product, but I know more than the average employee. I mean I know they got pay raises, but they are never helpful, especially the "genius" bar. Don't even get me started on how "not-genius" they are. If it can't be fixed by replacing an entire assembly, don't even think about it! I understand that they're not trained and it really isn't their fault (as its Apple's "model"), but can we please stop calling them genius?! How about under-paid wanna-be technicians. Or maybe just "The Help Desk"?

And it IS sad that they're getting rid of the one, in-store helpful program, One-to-One. My parents used that all the time and those trainers actually knew ins-and-outs of Apple. But alas, now people will just get the no-help, free, group classes.

Any way. I just went right to the AppleCare phone number and my new watch is on its way.

I hope Apple stays Apple. And yes, they're one of, if not the, wealthiest company, but you can still do wrong by your customer base (And company), but hopefully they can learn from their mistakes.

    And here is my replacement!

Very quick, only an actual 3 business days, including the day I sent and the day it was delivered.

No questions/issues with having to "talk" Apple into giving a replacement.

i just got mine replaced but they forgot my band. However they said they will deliver it to my house.

I hope the same issue of the serial number and paint wearing off won't happen again

Hopefully it was just a batch (serial number range) of watches. An issue with the engraving machine? My wife has her watch and it's still perfect.

Although, I'm not holding my breath... I couldn't have babied my watch anymore than I already had...

Also to anyone else who sends their watch in for service, it strictly says, in the packing instructions, not to include the band or any accessories "as they wont be returned."

After quite a long time and talking to a lot of people at Apple, I have finally been given the okay to get a replacement. I have been guaranteed that it will be 100% new. Kind of sad to leave my original watch which I managed to get when it was first released, but I hope the peeling logo won't happen again! Going to the store over the weekend to pick it up. We'll see what happens then.

Glad you are getting the replacement; so far my replacement has not had any peeling issues; however apple refused to replace the black sports band saying that the discolouring on the band is not a defect but wear and tear, but not too bothered about that as 3rd party bands are readily available.

How long did it take for you to get your replacement? I just gave it to Apple today, and they insisted on shipping it to another city to get it checked, and I might not even get an actual replacement! I have to wait three weeks until I am reunited with an Apple Watch again... I feel disabled already.

I only opened a case online, through the support page. I described the issue and they then sent me a small box to pack mine up in (I opened the case at 2030 local and received the box the next day at 1130.) I packaged my watch the same day, shipped it back (it was a Friday afternoon) and received my replacement Tuesday morning. I didn't deal with retail/"genius" at all. Only person I ever actually spoke to was an AppleCare lady when I received the email confirmation that they were sending a box for replacement and it had as the issue "power issues". I called to tell her it was not a power issue and that it was only cosmetic. She said my original note of flaking was still there and it wouldn't be an issue When it was received. It wasn't. No issues and got the replacement quick

You're one of the lucky ones then! I managed to pick up my replacement last saturday. They just gave me a replaced watch itself without the straps. So far so good. I got myself a Spigen case just in case! Saved about $300 USD for the replacement. Thank goodness it didn't take 3 weeks like they originally told me.

Guys I got my space grey one replaced but I sold it and bought the sports gold version.

So far so good and no peeling off. Just wanted to let you guys know.

If you guy still have peeling issues maybe you can get it replaced with the newer models.

i think Apple fixed the peeling issue.
