MacBookPro6,2 (mid 2010) Yosemite SSD Issues

Hello all,

I recently upgraded my mid 2010 15" macbook pro's hard drive to a samsung 850 evo 500GB SSD. I chose to do a clean install, and after probably 8 attempts finally got it to boot into Yosemite. Disk utility says the drive is fine, and the recovery partition is good but unfortunately it says the volume is corrupt and needs to be repaired but can't seem to do it when I restart into the repair mode. Any ideas?

TIA

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Sadly the Samsung EVO 850 has gotten some bad press on these forums with some users experiencing a great deal of difficulty, Note that Samsung does not indicate Mac compatibility on their web site. If possible, I would urge you to return the SDD and get an OWC or Crucial SSD instead.

On the other side of the coin, there are success stories with these Samsung SSDs. Essentially one is rolling the dice.

If you replace the SATA cable, it MIGHT help. No guarantees.

Ciao.

Darn, I was afraid of that. Any idea if it would work as a backup drive? I just ordered a crucial MX200.

In theory it should, just as it should in the MBP, but I cannot say with certainty. If you do so, I would appreciate to know your results.

Good luck.

With the Crucial SSD, just check to see if it has the latest firmware. That was an initial problem I had with one of my Crucial SSDs.

Ciao.
