Q: Unable to work in iTunes Library without Freezing and Missing Files
I recently has my laptop crash and sent it back to HP to be reformatted. Now that I have it back and it appears to be working as new, I've reloaded iTunes and reloaded all of the songs in my iTunes Library off of my external hard drive. This is the same set up I've been using for years.
Now that the music is all loaded, I am trying to create new playlists and listen to the songs in iTunes. After clicking on a song or two, bunches of the songs show the exclamation point (it starts popping up throughout my Library) and I need to relocate them one by one. To make matters worse though, iTunes freezes almost immediately. I'm unable to move songs into playlists, locate all of the missing files that pop up, and listen to more than one song.
My iTunes Library is virtually unusable and I'm in desperate need of some help! Thank you in advance for anyone that ay be able to offer some advice.

Hello dtesauro,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It looks like you've installed iTunes on your newly formatted PC but iTunes is asking you to relocate your files, and freezes when playing songs or making playlists.
The first thing I'd suggest is to create a new iTunes library on the computer. After creating the library, import a few songs and see if you can add to playlists and play songs without iTunes freezing.
To create a new library:
Open a different iTunes Library file or create a new one - Apple Support
Windows
If iTunes still freezes with the new library, I recommend the troubleshooting steps in Fix unexpected quits or launch issues in iTunes for Windows.
If iTunes is working normally with the new library, try importing the songs from your external drive again.
Sincerely.
