Windows 10 works On Macbook 13-inch 2010 Model

Using Bootcamp 4 partition I have found that Windows 10 works quickly and functions well on the Apple Macbook 13-inch White Plastic Unibody Mid 2010 Model and the only issue is that the Apple Trackpad does not function because it is not properly supported by Apple Bootcamp software.

Why is this model not supported with an updated bootcamp? I don't understand why Apple refuses to support this model through bootcamp since it obviously does work with Windows 10.

I have to plug in a USB mouse because the trackpad is not properly supported by Bootcamp 4.

Is there some way I could have the trackpad working in Windows 10?

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), Mid 2010 Plastic Unibody

HOW TO FIX WINDOWS 8 & WINDOWS 10 APPLE TRACKPAD PROBLEM

I found this post online from Amit Bhawani and I found it will work for Windows 10 also on the Macbook, but with just one additional adjustment. So for Windows 10 you should follow all the steps that Amit provides below but after restarting the Macbook you must repeat the steps, but this time instead of choosing USB Input Device, you must choose Apple Multitouch Device.

If you chose Apple Multitouch Device the first time around you will receive an error message. I am thinking that by choosing USB Input Device the first time around and then restarting and choosing Apple Multitouch the second time around that it clears the error and allows it to work the second time around.

Please note that in Windows 10 “USB Device” is listed as “Universal Serial Batch Device”. Good luck to you other Macbook users who wish to use Windows 10. I hope this helps you too.

In addition, for those of you who do not have a Mac that only supports Bootcamp 4, you need to first install Windows 7 using Bootcamp 4 and install the Bootcamp 4 drivers in Windows 7. Then since Windows 8 and Windows 10 are not officially supported by Bootcamp 4, you will need to burn the Windows 10 ISO image to a DVD R Disc (or save Windows 10 to a USB Flash Drive) and update your Windows 7 to Windows 10. Then follow all the steps below to fix the Apple Trackpad issue and then follow my additional step above to get your Apple Trackpad functioning in Windows 10. You must of course have a legally registered copy of Windows 7 in your name before installing Windows 7 or Windows 10.

Good Luck,

Below are the instructions from Amit Bhawani:

Here is how you can fix the Trackpad issue in Windows 8 on Macbook.

You need to just search for Device Manager and it would show up under the settings option, and this is the classic device manager that we see on Windows, and nothing specially seen in the Windows 8 OS.

Once you open the Device Manager, under the “Human Interface Drivers” you would see two Touchpad options, both of which would have the yellow error icon. Right click on the first one, and go to Properties. In the Properties section, there would be an option “Reinstall Driver”. Click on that.

There are a couple steps after this to follow, to search for the device software for the Touchpad, and if you choose to search for the drivers automatically, it fails to find the same. You need to select the option of manually searching for the folders, and here you need to select “USB Input Device” and that would fix the trackpad issue on the Macbook Pro’s Windows 8.

Once you are done with the installation of the two USB Input Devices, the trackpad would start working, but sometimes if it doesn’t you need to restart the Macbook for the same. This would still not be the permanent option because the Trackpad functions for limited options, like the normal scrolling and clicking, but the multi-touch functions don’t work and if you are seeking the same you need to wait for the official drivers or Boot Camp update. We would suggest this tip only for those who want to have a trackpad functioning for sure as of now.

Nobody knows why Apple does not support old Macs, but it's clear that old Macs (nearly any Intel-based Mac) can run Windows 10. Note that Apple's requirements only apply to the possibility of installing the Boot Camp drivers; if you do not have a "supported" Mac, you can still install Windows 10, but you will not be able to install the latest Boot Camp drivers version.

Respecting to the trackpad, it's well-known that Boot Camp 5 drivers may work properly with Windows 10, but this is not the case for Boot Camp 4 drivers. I'm afraid you have no options to fix it.

PD: Remember that you can still install Windows 10 on a virtual machine, because it is completely supported there and you do not need Boot Camp drivers 😉

1. Regression testing of hardware/drivers on older Macs.

2. Capability and features which are unsupported on older hardware.

3. Planned Obsolescence (so you buy newer equipment more frequently).

4. Support for W10 features on older hardware.
