Hi There...

'You are not alone...'

I have the exact same problem; I thought the upgrade to iTunes 7.02 would solve this but no luck! Just like you:

I connect & launch iTunes
iTunes sync's my files (VERY BLOODY SLOWLY I MIGHT ADD!)
It tells me 'Sync Completed' at the top of iTunes but I don't get the 'OK TO DISCONNECT' displayed on my iPod
I click the eject icon.. and I get 'ipod cant be ejected because it contains flies that are in use by other application' when nothing else is open or running.
I try this many times but never get out of this cycle
I close iTunes and try to disconnect the drive using the 'Eject' from 'My Computer' in Windows XP (even though 'Enable disk use is not selected, Windows show's the iPod as a device anyway) but still nothing?
So i just pull the cable out regardless and hope it caused me no problems.
Following which the iPod take around 2 mins to stop displaying 'Do Not Disconnect' and return to it's normal home screen.

All a bit crap really.. f.y.i. If I plug my 3G iPod in, it sync's the same amount of music (excluding videos of course) and seconds and ejects when asked immediately??? To me this points to the 5G firmware does it not?

Can anyone help us on this?

Regards
Jay

Easy way. Reset the iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.

Another way. Hold ctr-alt-del to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select them and hit the End Process button. Close the Windows Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method.

If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option.

McAfee ActiveScan security software also can cause a problem, and if you have this you might want to try turning it off and see if the iPod then ejects correctly.

If all else fails shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.
