What else but error -54

I have just reset my iPod touch, there is nothing on it. Nadda!! and yet I get iPod unable to sync, Unknown error -54. REALLY???/!!!???? Can't Apple please do something about this? It has been a topic forever. And people wonder why I have always been so reluctant to go with Apple. Please help, it is annoying more than anything.
