Macbook Pro 2012 OSX Yosemite grey screen

Hi Everyone,

I have a strange issue that only occurred about two days ago, i was working on my Macbook Pro and all of a sudden it crashed on me showing me a blank grey screen. I rebooted my machine and it showed the apple icon and started to load but froze and would not continue to load. I immediately thought it was the hardrive and went out and brought a new one but i am still getting this grey screen even trying to boot from USB or Internet recovery so i cannot load a new OSX on? Is this a graphics card issue?

I have tried all commands possible at boot and the only one that works is to do internet recovery and to select boot device nothing else seems to work.

Anyone have any ideas what has happened?

It would be helpful if you indicated the EXACT model/year of your MBP and the current OSX.

It will provide the model/year information.

Start with this:

Reset the SMC and the NVRAM:

Then try a safe boot:

Any success?

If not, what happens when you boot the MBP with the COMMAND = R keys? Do you get the 4 option menu?

If so, run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.

Ok from the top

SMC and the NVRAM

They both execute but the hardrive just hangs on the loading screen then after awhile goes to a blank grey screen.

Safe boot

Starts loading hangs and then goes to grey screen

COMMAND & R

Starts to load hangs and then goes to blank grey screen

Take out the HDD and install it into an enclosure. Connect it to the MBP via USB and boot the MBP using startup manager:

Any success? If so, the internal SATA cable is your prime suspect.

Ok done everything you suggested above, still hangs and produces grey screen :-(

The HDD is suspect. If available, try it on another Mac. The best option may be an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. The evaluation will be FREE.

Ok, i have an update i managed to get my MBP repaired under the MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues. They swapped out my Logic Board and everything is working perfectly again.
