Aug 20, 2015 2:01 PM in response to romidby Kappy,Entirely up to you. I would not advise it or, at least, save you iPhoto Library in the /Home/Pictures/ folder.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

Aug 20, 2015 2:01 PM in response to romidby Niel,Doing that will only free up a handful of GB regardless of how much space the iPhoto library appears to be taking up, and if you don't store a copy of the iPhoto library somewhere else, will prevent you from using it in iPhoto again. You're probably better off deleting other files.

Aug 20, 2015 2:11 PM in response to romidby léonie,The Photos Library and the iPhoto Library are sharing the original image files an the previews using hard links, see this support document:
Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
and
Six Colors: The (hard) link between Photos and iPhoto
So the storage will only be freed, if you delete the photos from both iPhoto and Photos. Deleting a photo from only one of the libraries will not free the storage at all. Either move both libraries to an external drive or follow Niel'S advice and find other files to relocate to another drive, for example your iTunes library or videos.
