Amazon website freezing my iMac!

I have a strange problem that I have not read about anywhere else, so here it goes. Over the last month, my computer crashes when I visit the Amazon website. It seems to happen when those animated web banners that advertise Special Deals are displayed. One of the cycling web banners seems to "glitch" (for lack of a better term) where my iMac freezes up! I seem to be able to operate the mouse and move the cursor, but I cannot force quit the browser or do anything else until I hit the restart button on the back of my iMac. Now I tried the Amazon website on both Firefox and Safari and it happens with both browsers. I thought at first my ad blocker plug-in on Firefox was causing the problem, but I do not have any plug-ins in Safari. Anyone have a clue what's going on?

I have had the same experience, twice. The first time I had to have Mavericks reinstalled. It happened again a couple of hours ago and I was able to use enough of the Mac to run a Time Machine reload from an hour earlier. That seemed to fix it. All I can guess is that Amazon is trying to install a cookie that conflicts with something on the Mac. The automatic error message that the Mac sends to Apple started with the word "panic."
