Q: iPhone music app freezing, throwing me out, misbehaving

This is on an iPhone 6 with the latest iOS 8.4.1 as of today, running the music app with an account for the family. As I'm browsing and listening to music, the app threw me out after an hour or so complaining about an authentication failure, unable to log me in. Quitting and restarting the app didn't work. Getting to the iTunes and app store section was impossible as the settings app would freeze when I pressed this menu item. Rebooting the phone got it working.

I am seeing the app misbehaving at irregular intervals, with the screen just going blank with no music list or albums, but it doesn't stop playing what's already on.

At other times, selecting a song doesn't play it. The app appears to "think" about it for a while and simply gives up. Retrying 4-5 times gets it playing.

There's really no problem with my WiFi or net connection and I'm on a 200Mbps fibre line here. Just to test, spotify worked just fine with no glitches.

Are there any tips & tricks you have used to resolve these problems?

Well, back again after two days of release; I've restored my phone and, apparently, the problem was solved. Buuut, surprise: it is back again since last night.

Same for me on the podcasts. I did a wipe and restored my phone via computer download (8.4.1), and that resolved the podcast issues, but Apple Music and the settings that apply are still having the same issues.

    PROBLEM FIXED (I think...)

Like all of you, I have been fighting this issue for about 4 days now. My phone has been draining the battery sometimes as much as 50% in one hour, networks unavailable, apps unresponsive and freezing (especially Music and Podcasts, as well as the settings for them), phone hot to the touch.

What I tried:  Full restore to factory settings (at least 7 times), reset of network settings several times, turning off Apple Music, turning off iCloud music.

What I found:  I determined that iCloud syncing of my music was pegging my processor (even AFTER I turned off iCloud sync), making it hard to get network connections, causing unresponsive and freezing apps, as well as killing my battery. I am subscribed to Apple Music and iCloud, and sync all of my music over the air to iCloud. When I first experienced the issues over the weekend, I restored my phone to factory settings, which also wiped my music. I realized my device has been attempting to load 40GB of music in the background and it was killing all other processes.

    What I did:

    • Plug my phone into my Mac & launch iTunes
    • Backup device.
    • Turn off iCloud music (this will remove all of your music from your device).
    • Turn off Apple Music.
    • Sync device
    • Backup phone again
    • I then selected only one album from my iTunes to sync to my phone (so that it doesn't try to push 40GB of music in the sync)
    • Sync and backup again
    • Press and hold the home button and power button until you see the plug on your phone (not the apple logo, it appear about 10 seconds after the apple logo appears); This will put your phone into restore mode.
    • Follow prompts to restore your phone to factory settings
    • Follow prompts to restore from latest backup

For now at least, my phone isn't hot, the battery is not draining, and all network and app functions have returned. I attempted parts of this before (turning off iCloud and syncing to my computer), but my phone kept trying to download music from iCloud even after syncing to my iTunes music. Clearly a bug. By going through all of the steps above, it finally killed that loop. I've since turned back on Apple Music (but not iCloud music) and it is still working fine. I will likely just sync my music to my computer instead of iCloud until an OS patch comes out just to be safe.

I am so glad it isn't just me... I had made a post on this site and on MR and got directed to this post from MR...

Issues with iOS 8.4.1 in. regards to... Everything?  More details inside

I see people say to back up your device and restore it... But it won't back up in iTunes... And unlike other parts of the iOS, I can't get into my iCloud settings to disable Find My iPhone ... Even if I reboot my phone...  How has this not been fixed yet?

I had the same issue. Here's what I did for my iPad and my gal's iPhone.

    • Sign-out of your iTunes ID on ALL of your machines and devices, both computers and iPhones/iPads.
    • Reboot. (I do not know if this step is necessary, but it's not something that will hurt.)
    • Sign back into your iTunes ID.

I think it is an iTunes/App Store ID synchronization issue. When you sign-out on ALL devices and then re-sign-in, it gets them back into "balance."

    I hope this helps.

Tried this and didn't keep it stable for long. Still searching for a fix.

    Thanks

Aw, nuts. It's been almost 24-hours for me and so far (knock on wood!) all is well.

Just to be sure, did you sign-out/sign-in on ALL of your devices and computers?

If so, please forgive me repeating it.

If not, then give it a shot.

Here's to finding a fix for this issue -- and hoping it's NOT to wait for iOS 9!

THANKS for the time it took to recur. I'm fortunate to announce that mine has been well for longer than that after doing what I did. I hope it keeps.

Regarding email links, that happened to me as well!

I Don't think we need a new thread as this thread is mainly anything happening under iOS 8.4.1

has the email issue disappeared now auphalanx?

    thanks
