ApplicationsThis procedure will delete certain temporary and cache files used by system processes. The files are automatically generated and don't contain any of your data. Occasionally they can become corrupt and cause problems such as yours.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/var/folders/zz
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services â–¹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a subfolder named "zz" selected. Move that subfolder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go â–¹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Aug 21, 2015 3:20 PM in response to phoenixfromdenverby phoenixfromdenver,Well - I tried something else . . . .I started deleting all of the items in the "zz" folder one by one. It worked! Thanks!

Aug 21, 2015 3:36 PM in response to phoenixfromdenverby phoenixfromdenver,Spoke too soon. The "zz" file and all of its contents keeps coming back. Also, trash won't empty - said it was emptying 6,000+ files so I stopped it as I assume it was deleting all of my files. I do have the computer backed up.

Mac App StoreThe zz file will regenerate when you restart the mac, this is normal, and yes it may contain many thousands of files which is also normal.
however if that hasn't worked try the Apple Support Pages and download the update from there.

Aug 21, 2015 4:41 PM in response to Eau Rougeby phoenixfromdenver,Thanks for your help. Actually, I've been able to download both updates a number of times since Aug. 15, however, the app store keeps telling me I have an update and it is the same one over and over. Guess I will just wait it out until another update and maybe it will clear up then.

Mac App StoreIf the App Store notifies you that your updates have been installed this is quite often erroneous. check in About This Mac, click System Report,
then Software and then Installations, where you will see a list of what is installed on your mac.
As you have said you keep getting the Update button then i think it has not installed that is why i directed you to here
click on the blue text.

Mac App StoreThe downloads from the Apple support download pages are quicker to download and the connection is more reliable.

ApplicationsIt's not clear that you followed the instructions. You have to move the whole zz folder to the Trash, then immediately restart, then empty the Trash. Is that what you did?

Aug 21, 2015 6:11 PM in response to Linc Davisby phoenixfromdenver,Yes, I did that first and when that didn't work I tried taking the files within the folder to the trash, but that didn't work either. Thanks for your help. I've downloaded the updates from the apple support page and I think all is well. I hope the update reminder will go away by tomorrow. . . .
