Q: i have installed and re-installed numerous times the new 10.10.5 and 12.2.2 updates but the app store keeps telling me i have an update.  what to do?

I cannot get the notice that I have an update to go away and keep trying to install and re-install the new 10.10.5 /12.2.2 update.  I now have several "installed within the last 30 days," but still have the same update to install - it won't go away. ???

This procedure will delete certain temporary and cache files used by system processes. The files are automatically generated and don't contain any of your data. Occasionally they can become corrupt and cause problems such as yours.

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

    /var/folders/zz

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services â–¹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a subfolder named "zz" selected. Move that subfolder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

              Go â–¹ Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Well - I tried something else . . . .I started deleting all of the items in the "zz" folder one by one.  It worked!  Thanks!

Spoke too soon.  The "zz" file and all of its contents keeps coming back.  Also, trash won't empty - said it was emptying 6,000+ files so I stopped it as I assume it was deleting all of my files.  I do have the computer backed up.

The zz file will regenerate when you restart the mac, this is normal, and yes it may contain many thousands of files which is also normal.

however if that hasn't worked try the Apple Support Pages and download the update from there.

Thanks for your help.  Actually, I've been able to download both updates a number of times since Aug. 15, however, the app store keeps telling me I have an update and it is the same one over and over.  Guess I will just wait it out until another update and maybe it will clear up then.

If the App Store notifies you that your updates have been installed this is quite often erroneous. check in About This Mac, click System Report,

then Software and then Installations, where you will see a list of what is installed on your mac.

As you have said you keep getting the Update button then i think it has not installed that is why i directed you to here

    click on the blue text.

You are right, neither of the updates are there.  I will have to try the other method tomorrow when I have an "extra" 4 hours. . . .lol - but this isn't funny.

The downloads from the Apple support download pages are quicker to download and the connection is more reliable.

It's not clear that you followed the instructions. You have to move the whole zz folder to the Trash, then immediately restart, then empty the Trash. Is that what you did?

Yes, I did that first and when that didn't work I tried taking the files within the folder to the trash, but that didn't work either.  Thanks for your help.  I've downloaded the updates from the apple support page and I think all is well.  I hope the update reminder will go away by tomorrow. . . .
