Q: Is iCloud compatible with Outlook 2016?

I just upgraded to Windows 365 2016 and all of the sudden none of my iCloud data is synced. When I click on anything iCloud within Outlook 2016 I get an error window that says, "The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened." Also, I noticed that the module on the Outlook ribbon menu that allows for manual data updates is just gone. It disappeared! I have had to download the Outlook.com app and open an Outlook.com account in order to sync my data so that I can access it from multiple devices with regards to using email, contacts and calendars. I am not happy with this so I hope that Microsoft and Apple are working on this issue. I have a screen shot of this, but don't see a way to attach it on this forum.

I sympathise with your situation as I was in the position too. I NEEDED everything to sync for my business and their answers to the "workaround" for now was not an option for me.

I had to reformat/restore my system - and then reinstall everything again - yes, I do this for a living but time was an issue - in the end this was all I could do to fix the problem. I have noticed one big difference - on the sync process it says 3 of 6 syncing whereas before the cleanup it was 3 of 7 - they have obviously dropped a process along the redesign. Somewhere in your registry you may be able to locate all instances of icloud etc... but the other-way was quicker for me. Good luck

Fellow Sufferers:

This is easier than it seems.  Before I setup Outlook 2016 for Windows on Windows 10, I downloaded iCloud for Windows and installed Apple's new executable.

Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support

1. Update your Windows 10 software with latest patches.  Restart your Windows 10 machine.

2. Install Office 2016 for Windows, validate install by launching Word or another application (Not Outlook yet).  Then launch another Office app (Excel) to make sure install key is accepted and working..  Restart your machine.

3. Download and install iCloud for Windows (above link).  Restart if prompted

4. Launch iCloud for Windows and sign in.

5. Open Outlook 2016 at this point.  iCloud will have configured all settings and everything will start syncing in the background.

I was dealing with these problems and tried many of the workarounds. Oh my goodness ... I've spent too much time on this. I decided to go in a different direction ... dump iTunes and iCloud. Besides, all the hackings as of late compelled me to take greater control of my privacy. So now I'm syncing Outlook Calendar and Contacts directly between my PC and my iPhone/iPad. No more cloud or workarounds.

I ALWAYS get the error - Could Not Accept Invitation

I have to open iCloud in a browser to accept invitations. So, what good does this actually do to keep my calendar up to date.

I would think the company that can make such great products wouldn't have such a screwed up plugin. **** it angers me.

I love how people want Apple to fix the free iCloud product but no one thinks to contact Microsoft to investigate Office which costs over $100.

How are you syncing directly between Outlook and your iOS devices?

I've had it with issues with the iCloud Outlook add-in.

So iCloud with Outlook 2016 was working just fine for me for the past few months.

Today when I went to open my calendar, I got the dreaded message that something went wrong and it couldn't sync???

I happened to notice (after a half-day of trying everything I could to get it to sync again) that the "This view is filtered" notice was on in the lower left of the Outlook calendar window? I clicked on this and sure enough, there was an SQL query listed in the filter criteria? No idea how this got there but once I deleted it, my calendar opened just fine?

I just thought I would add this here for those of you who may still be struggling with this problem. Just another thing to check.

I just went thru this with a brand new Dell laptop with Windows 10 and Office 2016 for one of my users. I tried many of the offered solutions, no-go. Today I already had the iCloud control panel uninstalled. So I installed iTunes first, and logged in as the user. Then I installed the iCloud control panel 5.2.1 - same version that wouldn't work on here just days ago. The Contacts and Calendar are present and syncing now. The was a clickable message at the top of the iCloud panel to enable those during the first time up. Before this, I could NOT get the checkmark to stay next to Contacts, Calendar, etc. in the iCloud panel. This time it did create the icloud.com email account in Outlook, and gave me a pop-up to that effect this time - which is among the talked about solutions. So This install went a bit differently, and works, even after rebooting. What a pain this issue was. I hope it stays fixed !

Are you saying it magically worked again one day?!  iCloud for Windows -- I can NOT get the checkmark to stay next to Contacts, Calendar, etc. in the iCloud panel. And now my iPhone does not sync the calendar with Outlook.  I've deleted and reinstalled iCloud for Windows, I reinstalled outlook (Office 365) Several times. Nothing.  It was working last week and for the past few months and my iPhone calendar was syncing with outlook calendar, not now.  I'm at a complete loss.  (I'm using Windows 10 & Office 365 all up to date)

Well, it didn't just work for no reason. And yes, brand new Dell laptop with Windows 10 and Office H&B 2016. It seems my fix is to related to one or two items. After I uninstalled the iCloud Control Panel after a few failed fixes, I installed iTunes then logged in to the user's account. Then I installed the iCloud Control Panel and there was more happening than before. Now the icloud.com (me.com for older accounts) email address was created, and things went right on thru to the end. Checkmark stayed and contacts and calendars sync fine. ***NOTE: I did find out later that the user had never completed the setup of the Apple email account on his previous laptop, and did complete that the night before (verified the email?). Could be a factor. Hope this helps.
